Jackson Hole Winter Festival

President's weekend is just a few days away and the town of Jackson and the Snow King Resort are getting ready for lots of fun activities.  The Jackson Hole Winter Festival starts off on Thursday the 16th with a Snow Sculpture Competition on the Historic Jackson Hole Town Square.  There is even a special Snow Sculpting event just for kids.  A little later in the evening enjoy fine art and fine food with a Downtown Gallery Walk.  Many local restaurants have partnered with the art galleries to provide libations along the way. On Friday the 17th, the Snow King Resort is Winter Festival Headquarters with the Margarita Cup Race followed by the Outrageous Air Show and Bash.  Don't forget about Moose Hockey as the Cache Valley Trappers take on our own Jackson Hole Moose.  Let's go Moose!!!!   The Moose will play the Cache Valley Trappers on both Friday and Saturday nights.  Look for fireworks and a torch light parade on the Snow King Ski Area Friday night as well. Saturday the 18th is an even bigger day of events.  First the Moose Chase Nordic Race takes off at 10 AM followed by the All American Cutter Races a truly unique race combining snow and horse drawn chariots.  Later in the afternoon check out the Grand Teton Music Festival Family Concert a great show for all ages or the Alonzo King Lines Ballet.  Jackson Hole finishes the evening right back at the Snow King Resort with a repeat of Friday night.  More Outrageous Air Show and Moose Hockey!  Saturday is going to be a busy day. The Winter Festival wraps up on Sunday with a Dodge-ball Tournament, K-9 Keg Pull, Beer, Brats & Live Music at the Jackson Hole Fairgrounds and day 2 of the All American Cutter Races.  Throughout the entire weekend the Snow Sculpture Contest will continue.  Did I mention the skiing is still great?  The snowmobiling out to Yellowstone and Togwotee are still running strong?  Celebrate President's Weekend in Jackson Hole!  It's going to be a great party.

Hole Bagel

There s a new bagel shop in town, and they toast!!  Hole Bagel located across the street from the base of Snow King mountain gives you a choice of wheat or plain bagels, made by e.leaven.  Then you get to choose a spread cream cheese, peanut butter, butter, honey etc.  Finally, you get to choose your bits, and you can choose as many bits as you d like!!  Choices include garlic, onion, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, granola, bacon bits, raisins, walnuts and sun-dried tomatoes.  Just $3 for one of these huge, toasted bagels!  And just for a dollar more you can add a tasty coffee.  Tasty, indeed!  I usually only drink about 4 ounces of coffee, but I downed the whole cup before it could get cold. I ll definitely be checking this place out again, and you should too!

Big Birthday Bash

I am happy to be at work this Monday morning, because I need a break from living the high life in Jackson Hole!  I had a great weekend celebrating my friend, Mandy s birthday.  Saturday evening we, and seven other of her friends, partook of the 2 for 1 special at Il Villaggio Osteria, www.jhosteria.com.  Being an odd number of nine, we came up with a great solution to insure an optimum benefit of the 2 for 1 deal.  We ordered a Wild Mushroom Pizza to split as an appetizer!  Wine and cocktails, including Campari Old Fashions and Basil Martinis, made us a cheery bunch.  I had the Quattro Stagioni pizza as my entrée.  This pizza was so loaded down with toppings, like artichoke hearts, prosciutto, tomatoes, mushrooms and olives, I had to use a knife and a fork to eat it!  Everything looked delicious from the Ziti, to the Gnocchi, to the Pumpkin Risotto.  One of my dinner companions was kind enough to let me try her Pumpkin Risotto.  I just had to try it, because on the plate there was actually a little pumpkin, which had been hollowed out and filled with the risotto.  It was an excellent presentation! Sunday morning Mandy and I took our time getting out to Teton Village, because Jackson Hole Mountain Resort reported only 1 of new snow.    Even with only one new inch of snow, the mountain was in great condition lots of tracked up but still very soft snow could be found from the Apres Vous lift (known to locals as AV ) to the Sublette lift.  And with the entire mountain being open, we never had to wait in a line.  We skied until 3:30, when we finally stopped for lunch at the Village cafe© (or the VC ).  There is nothing like a slice of VC pizza and a beer after skiing.  I must warn you that this place is almost always packed by 4pm, but VC Pizza, with its whole wheat crust and unique topping combinations on the Slice o the Day, is well worth the wait at their small bar. With Osteria offering their 2 for 1 entrée special until December 15 and the whole mountain being open before the big holiday rush.
